"MATABBIA, SICILIANS OF TUNISIA"

MARSALA 19/20/21 AUGUST 2022
The demonstration "Matabbia" will take place in Marsala from 19 to 21 August 2022 and will tell about the emigration of Sicilians in Tunisia between the 19th century and the first thirty years of the 20th century.
The cultural association Banca Marsalese della Memoria, organizer of the event, besides screenings of short and feature films and moments of entertainment, will involve among the major scholars and writers on the subject of the three days Marshal's ornaments:
-Silvia Finzi editor of Corriere di Tunis, ordinary teacher at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in Tunis and President of the Committee Dante Alighieri in Tunis.
Marinette Pendola writer and scholar of the history of the Italian collectivity in Tunisia.
-Alfonso Campisi ordinary teacher of Italian Philology and Romance and Sicilian Language and Doctrine at the University of La Manouba in Tunis, writer and President of the Sicilian Department for the dialogue of culture and civilization.
-Iride Valenti teacher of general Linguistics and Glottology in the Department of Humanities at the University of Catania
-Salvatore Spezial teacher of History and Institution of Africa at the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilization from the University of Messina.
-Leila El Houssi teacher of African History at the Department of Political Science at La Sapienza University in Rome.
-Carmel Russo researcher of Cultural Anthropology at La Sapienza University in Rome.
-Sonia Gallico architect, edited the reissue of the complete collection of the antifascist newspaper "L'Italiano di Tunis".
-Marcello Bivona film director, scholar of the Italian community in Tunisia.
Rita Strazzera advisor of the Dante Alighieri Institute in Tunis and Vice President of the cultural association "Little Sicily" of La Goulette, twinned with Banca Marsalese della Memoria.
Also the sculptor Girolamo Palmizi, the filmmaker Enrico Montalbano and the songwriter Tiberio Ferracane will participate in the demonstration.
