Elle a &eacute;t&eacute; d&eacute;couverte au d&eacute;but du Protectorat (en 1883). On la situe &agrave; l&rsquo;&eacute;poque byzantine (VI e si&egrave;cle).<\/p>\n<p>\t\tIl nous reste une douzaine de panneaux de mosa&iuml;ques de cette synagogue qui se trouvent au Brooklyn Mus&eacute;um &agrave; New York. Trois autres mosa&iuml;ques se trouvent au Mus&eacute;e du Bardo &agrave; Tunis, elles contiennent des inscriptions en Latin. Deux contiennent le mot SYNAGOGA et une autre indique l&rsquo;endroit o&ugrave; on pose les &lsquo;livres sacr&eacute;s&rsquo; (Heikhal).<\/p>\n<p>\t\tDe l&rsquo;importance du lieu on peut lire dans les premiers rapports (1910) : &laquo; les chambres qui &eacute;taient pav&eacute;es de mosa&iuml;ques et 13 autres chambres de cet &eacute;difice qui devait &ecirc;tre assez vaste. &raquo;<\/p>\n<p>\t\tUne &eacute;tude de cette synagogue a &eacute;t&eacute; pr&eacute;sent&eacute;e au Colloque de Bath sur l&rsquo;Etude de la Mosa&iuml;que Antique par Dr Jean-Pierre Darmon, que je salue ici. Il est n&eacute;, a &eacute;tudi&eacute; et enseign&eacute; quelques ann&eacute;es &agrave; l&rsquo;Universit&eacute; de Tunis dans les ann&eacute;es 60&rsquo;s.
