\nN\u00e9 en novembre 1925, il devan\u00e7a l\u2019appel et s\u2019engagea en 1943, soit avant ses 18 ans, dans la marine nationale. Il termina la guerre comme Enseigne de vaisseau de 1\u00e8re classe .<\/p>\n

Lionel est le fils d’Albert L\u00e9vy et d’Alice Attias. Albert L\u00e9vy, avocat, juge de paix suppl\u00e9ant non r\u00e9tribu\u00e9 fut Administrateur de l’Alliance fran\u00e7aise \u00e0 Tunis. Albert Levy est le fr\u00e8re du peintre Moses Levy et l’oncle du peintre Nello Levy. Albert et Moses sont n\u00e9s \u00e0 Tunis dans une famille originaire de Gibraltar.<\/p>\n

Leur grand-p\u00e8re Moses fut repr\u00e9sentant de la Grande-Bretagne \u00e0 la Commission Internationale charg\u00e9e d’administrer les finances tunisiennes, alors que ses beaux-fr\u00e8res Angiolo et Giacomo Gutti\u00e8res y repr\u00e9sentaient l’Italie. Par sa m\u00e8re et sa femme, Albert L\u00e9vy \u00e9tait \u00e9troitement li\u00e9 \u00e0 l’Italie et \u00e0 la Toscane.<\/p>\n

Avocat comme son p\u00e8re, Lionel est pr\u00e9sident d’honneur de la Conf\u00e9d\u00e9ration Nationale des Avocats. Ayant pris sa retraite en 1991, il entreprit des \u00e9tudes d’histoire, sanctionn\u00e9es par un doctorat \u00e0 l’Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes \u00e0 Paris, et devint sp\u00e9cialiste de l’histoire des juifs portugais. Son quadrisa\u00efeul, un autre Moses Levy de Gibraltar, armateur, s’\u00e9tablit \u00e0 Lisbonne en 1807, d’o\u00f9 il continua ses relations notamment avec le Br\u00e9sil.<\/p>\n
