Ils pratiquaient leur culte dans des synagogues. On a identifi\u00e9 \u00e0 Sfax une vingtaine de synagogues parmi lesquelles la synagogue Edmond Azria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La synagogue Edmond Azria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s la deuxi\u00e8me guerre mondiale et d\u00e8s 1948, la famille Azria \u00e9difiait une synagogue sur la rue Philippe Thomas (actuellement rue Habib Maazoun). Makhlouf Azria \u00e9tant perdu son fils Edmond en F\u00e9vrier 1943 lui d\u00e9dia cette synagogue implant\u00e9e dans le quartier du port. Le fran\u00e7ais Emile Varnier a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019architecte de cette synagogue et le musulman Mohamed Kriaa a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019entrepreneur avec un prix forfaitaire de 2124000 francs. La fa\u00e7ade est en retrait et finit en hauteur par un pignon, on retrouve la rose centrale avec le maguen david et les rampants en degr\u00e9s agr\u00e9ment\u00e9s des noms des 12 tribus. Les tables sont inscrites dans un motif rectangulaire. L\u2019entr\u00e9e se fait sous un porche couronn\u00e9 d\u2019une balustrade, les piliers sont octogonaux et les ferronneries privil\u00e9giaient les&nbsp; angles droits. On voit des influences art d\u00e9co en vogue en Tunisie jusqu\u2019\u00e0 les ann\u00e9es 40.<\/p>\n<p><a L\u2019\u00e9clairage est compl\u00e9t\u00e9 par des fen\u00eatres hautes&nbsp; et un oculus au-dessus de hekhal (l\u2019arche sainte).<\/p>\n<p><a initiales EA sur les portes (Edmond Azria)&nbsp; et une inscription au fronton qui rappelle le d\u00e9dicataire de la synagogue Edmond ben Makhlouf Azria. Entre 1948 et 1955, cette synagogue fit office de synagogue officielle avant l\u2019inauguration de la grande synagogue de Sfax en 1955.<\/p>\n<p>Cette synagogue est maintenant ferm\u00e9e depuis les ann\u00e9es 80<\/p>\n<p><strong>Des ressemblances entre la synagogue Edmond Azria et la grande synagogue de Tunis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La grande synagogue de Tunis est l\u2019une des plus importants lieux de culte en Tunisie. Elle se trouve aujourd\u2019hui \u00e0 l\u2019avenue de la libert\u00e9. Ce lieu de culte a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit de Juin 1933 au 23 D\u00e9cembre 1937.
