Les Juifs qui ne partagent pas ces opinions sont de mauvais Juifs.<\/span><\/p>\n Cette distinction est utile aux ennemis d’Isra\u00ebl, qui peuvent l’utiliser pour affirmer qu’il est impossible de ha\u00efr les Juifs, car certains d’entre eux soutiennent leur hostilit\u00e9 \u00e0 l’\u00e9gard d’Isra\u00ebl.<\/span><\/p>\n La Maison Blanche a accueilli cette semaine une table ronde sur l’antis\u00e9mitisme pour discuter de l’escalade alarmante des attaques contre les Juifs am\u00e9ricains. Pourtant, l’administration Biden a ostensiblement omis d’inviter \u00e0 cette discussion la Zionist Organisation of America, la Coalition for Jewish Values et le Jewish Leadership Project.<\/span><\/p>\n Ces organisations d\u00e9fendent Isra\u00ebl et le peuple juif contre les id\u00e9ologies de gauche. Elles sont donc de mauvais juifs.<\/span><\/p>\n Malheureusement, cet odieux trope Bon Juif\/Mauvais Juif est maintenant promu au sein m\u00eame du monde juif.<\/span><\/p>\n Tant en Isra\u00ebl qu’en diaspora, les Juifs progressistes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 boulevers\u00e9s par la composition du nouveau gouvernement form\u00e9 par le Premier ministre d\u00e9sign\u00e9 Benjamin Netanyahu. En effet, il attribue des postes gouvernementaux \u00e0 trois l\u00e9gislateurs tr\u00e8s controvers\u00e9s. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n L’agitateur Itamar Ben-Gvir devrait devenir ministre de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 nationale. <\/span> <\/span>Bezalel Smotrich, qui aspire \u00e0 une th\u00e9ocratie isra\u00e9lienne, serait un ministre de la d\u00e9fense de second rang, dot\u00e9 de certains pouvoirs sur les territoires contest\u00e9s de Jud\u00e9e et de Samarie. Avi Maoz, dont le parti s’oppose aux droits des LGBTQ et \u00e0 d’autres causes progressistes, se voit apparemment confier le contr\u00f4le des apports ext\u00e9rieurs dans le programme scolaire et un nouveau bureau consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0l’identit\u00e9 juive\u00a0\u00bb. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Cette situation a donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 des d\u00e9bordements \u00e9piques de la part des Juifs de la diaspora, qui s’empressent d’annoncer qu’ils pourraient d\u00e9sormais retirer leur soutien \u00e0 Isra\u00ebl. Une telle hyst\u00e9rie favorise \u00e9galement l’agenda du bon et du mauvais juif. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Cette semaine, Richard Ferrer, le r\u00e9dacteur en chef du journal britannique Jewish News, a annonc\u00e9 aux lecteurs de l\u2019\u00e9dition en ligne du Times de Londres que de nombreux juifs britanniques \u00e9taient \u00ab horrifi\u00e9s \u00bb par le nouveau gouvernement isra\u00e9lien.<\/span><\/p>\n Ses affirmations dans cet article \u00e9taient exag\u00e9r\u00e9es, d\u00e9form\u00e9es et absurdes. Il d\u00e9crit Ben-Gvir, Smotrich et Maoz comme \u00ab les Talibans juifs th\u00e9ocrates \u00e0 la recherche d’un Iran juif<\/i><\/b> \u00bb .<\/span><\/p>\n Laissez de c\u00f4t\u00e9 pour le moment que les Talibans sont des musulmans sunnites tandis que les Iraniens sont leurs ennemis chiites. L’id\u00e9e que l’un de ces trois juifs isra\u00e9liens repr\u00e9sente la menace mortelle et injustifi\u00e9e \u00e0 la vie et \u00e0 la libert\u00e9 incarn\u00e9e par les talibans et les atrocit\u00e9s qu’ils ont commises est grotesque.<\/span><\/p>\n De plus, les talibans sont des islamistes. Mais Ferrer ne s\u2019\u00e9tait pas senti oblig\u00e9 de dire aux lecteurs du Times comme il l\u2019a fait cette semaine que \u00ab Theodor Herzl devait se retourner dans sa tombe<\/i> \u00bb lorsque le gouvernement de Naftali Bennett et de Yair Lapid s\u2019est alli\u00e9 avec le parti islamiste Ra\u2019am de Mansour Abbas.<\/span><\/p>\n Cela \u00e9tait en d\u00e9pit du fait que Ra\u2019am est affili\u00e9 aux Fr\u00e8res Musulmans, qui promulgue des conspirations parano\u00efaques sur les Juifs et cherche la destruction d’Isra\u00ebl et de l’Occident.<\/span><\/p>\n Ferrer d\u00e9clara que les trois Isra\u00e9liens n’\u00e9taient \u00ab pas des d\u00e9mocrates aux vues lib\u00e9rales \u00bb et que deux au moins \u00e9taient antigays. Mais l\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, son Jewish News rapportait que Ra\u2019am \u00e9tait \u00absocialement extr\u00eamement conservateur, et Abbas avait fait un discours c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00e0 un site d\u2019information isra\u00e9lien en faveur d\u2019une th\u00e9rapie de conversion pour les personnes LGBTQ. Son journal n’en a pas moins ronronn\u00e9 sur cette coalition et qualifi\u00e9 Abbas de \u00abpragmatique\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n De plus, l\u2019article de Ferrer a invers\u00e9 la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 d\u2019une mani\u00e8re qui aurait rendu justice \u00e0 tout propagandiste islamiste. Il a accus\u00e9 BenGvir d\u2019avoir attis\u00e9 les \u00e9meutes de l\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re contre les Arabes isra\u00e9liens qui ont d\u00e9clench\u00e9 un conflit avec le Hamas.<\/span><\/p>\n La police a en effet accus\u00e9 Ben Gvir d\u2019attiser les tensions qui ont agit\u00e9 les villes mixtes d\u2019Isra\u00ebl en mai de l\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re. Mais la plus grande partie de cette violence, y compris le meurtre d’Isra\u00e9liens, a \u00e9t\u00e9 commise par des Arabes isra\u00e9liens aux cris de \u00abAvec le feu et le sang, nous rach\u00e8terons la Palestine<\/i>\u00bb et \u00abmassacrons les Juifs<\/i>\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n Ce n’est qu’apr\u00e8s que le Hamas et le Jihad Islamique Palestinien aient commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 tirer des centaines de roquettes sur Isra\u00ebl depuis Gaza pendant ce soul\u00e8vement nationaliste arabe qu’Isra\u00ebl a entrepris une action militaire. Pourtant, Ferrer a laiss\u00e9 entendre qu’Isra\u00ebl \u00e9tait responsable de la violence.<\/span><\/p>\n Placer cette honteuse parodie dans le Times fournira sans aucun doute de nouvelles munitions aux ennemis d\u2019Isra\u00ebl et diabolisera tous les Juifs qui la soutiennen<\/b>t. En effet, l\u2019implication de la pr\u00e9tention de Ferrer \u00e0 ch\u00e9rir l\u2019\u00c9tat juif est que quiconque ne hurle pas en notre nom est un mauvais juif. Cela a eu un \u00e9cho en Isra\u00ebl m\u00eame, o\u00f9 la gauche a \u00e9galement sombr\u00e9 dans l’effondrement.<\/span><\/p>\n Maoz a provoqu\u00e9 l’indignation \u00e0 la Knesset cette semaine en comparant le gouvernement Lapid aux Juifs hell\u00e9nisants de l’histoire de Hanoukka. \u00ab Quiconque tente de cr\u00e9er une nouvelle religion dite lib\u00e9rale est dans l’obscurit\u00e9 <\/i>\u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \u00abQuiconque, par dissimulation et obscurcissement intentionnels, essaie de laver le cerveau des enfants d’Isra\u00ebl avec leurs intentions, \u00e0 l’insu des parents, est l’obscurit\u00e9<\/i>\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n Cela a provoqu\u00e9 Yesh Atid MK Michal Shir Segman \u00e0 crier : \u00abQui \u00eates vous pour d\u00e9cider qui est un bon Juif et qui est un mauvais Juif ? Chutzp<\/i>ah.\u00bb Mais que faisait-elle si ce n’\u00e9tait pas exactement cela ?<\/span><\/p>\n Pour ces personnes, les m\u00e9chants Juifs incluent toute personne ayant une conception orthodoxe et conservatrice des commandements de la Torah.<\/span><\/p>\n Les personnes rationnelles qui s’inqui\u00e8tent, de fa\u00e7on compr\u00e9hensible, des ant\u00e9c\u00e9dents de ces trois personnes ou trouvent leurs positions actuelles d\u00e9plaisantes attendront de voir ce qu’elles font r\u00e9ellement. Netanyahou n’a-t-il pas en effet clairement fait savoir qu\u2019il entendait maintenir l’opposition en laisse.<\/span><\/p>\n Comme Shany Mor et Einat Wilf l’ont \u00e9crit pour la Fondation pour la d\u00e9fense des d\u00e9mocraties – en consid\u00e9rant les nombreuses occasions o\u00f9 l’\u00e9lection d’un nouveau gouvernement isra\u00e9lien a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 des sc\u00e9narios horribles – \u00ab\u00a0Ce qui ressort, c’est que les gouvernements de Netanyahou, qui ont tous, sans exception, \u00e9t\u00e9 accueillis avec des larmes par la partie vaincue, n’ont jamais mis en \u0153uvre ces sc\u00e9narios de cauchemar, et parfois m\u00eame, c’est le contraire qui s’est produit<\/i><\/b>\u00ab\u00a0. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Mais les embouteilleurs de perles d’aujourd’hui n’attendent pas de voir ce qui va se passer. Ils s’opposent \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence de ces trois personnes au sein du gouvernement. Ils paniquent \u00e0 l’id\u00e9e d’\u00eatre associ\u00e9s \u00e0 ces personnages parce qu’ils sont tous juifs. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Pour saisir \u00e0 quel point cette r\u00e9action est curieuse, regardez-la de l’autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 du t\u00e9lescope politique. <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n Les points de vue des juifs progressistes – sur les questions de politique identitaire telles que la race et le sexe ou sur les questions relatives \u00e0 Isra\u00ebl et aux Palestiniens – offensent, bouleversent et effraient les autres juifs. Ils pensent que les progressistes ont tort, qu’ils sont illib\u00e9raux, hypocrites et qu’ils menacent de diverses mani\u00e8res l’int\u00e9grit\u00e9 et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 d’Isra\u00ebl et du peuple juif. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Pourtant, ces anti-progressistes ne sentent pas que leur propre identit\u00e9 est compromise par ces positions ; ils ne ressentent pas le besoin de dire \u00ab\u00a0pas en mon nom\u00a0\u00bb. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Que nous dit cette diff\u00e9rence ? <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n Premi\u00e8rement, ce qui importe toujours le plus pour les progressistes, c’est la mani\u00e8re dont les autres les per\u00e7oivent – et dont ils se per\u00e7oivent eux-m\u00eames. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Or, un \u00e9l\u00e9ment crucial de leur identit\u00e9 est qu’ils se d\u00e9finissent par ce qu’ils ne sont pas. <\/b>Ils appellent leurs adversaires \u00ab\u00a0la droite\u00a0\u00bb, non pas comme un descripteur exact (ce n’est souvent pas le cas), mais comme une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence insultante d’inacceptabilit\u00e9. Plus ce crit\u00e8re est mauvais, plus ils deviennent vertueux. C’est pourquoi ils sont si prompts \u00e0 confondre \u00ab\u00a0droite\u00a0\u00bb avec \u00ab\u00a0extr\u00eame droite\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0fasciste\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0nazi\u00a0\u00bb. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Et ce, malgr\u00e9 le fait qu’ils se rendent eux-m\u00eames ridicules, comme l’a fait le maire de Tel Aviv, Ron Huldai, qui a exhort\u00e9 les Isra\u00e9liens \u00e0 se soulever contre l’imminente \u00ab\u00a0th\u00e9ocratie fasciste<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb du pays. Mais bien s\u00fbr, sous un fascisme r\u00e9el, une telle r\u00e9volte ne serait pas possible. Et inciter \u00e0 la r\u00e9volte contre un gouvernement d\u00fbment \u00e9lu n’est gu\u00e8re d\u00e9mocratique. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Peu importe. Tout Juif qui ne d\u00e9nonce pas Ben-Gvir, Smotrich ou Maoz sera catalogu\u00e9 comme un mauvais Juif. La diffamation est un moyen de mettre fin \u00e0 une discussion. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Ceux qui essaient de faire taire les autres de cette mani\u00e8re le font par peur. Alors pourquoi ces \u00ab\u00a0bons juifs\u00a0\u00bb ont-ils si peur que leur propre identit\u00e9 soit si vuln\u00e9rable ? <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Voici la derni\u00e8re curiosit\u00e9. Jews who don\u2019t hold with those opinions are Bad Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n This distinction is helpful to Israel-bashers, who can use it to claim that they can\u2019t<\/b> possibly hate the Jews because there are Jews who support their hostility to Israel. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n The White House this week hosted a round table on antisemitism to discuss the alarming escalation in attacks on American Jews. Yet the Biden administration conspicuously failed to invite to this discussion the Zionist Organisation of America, the Coalition for Jewish Values and the Jewish Leadership Project.<\/span><\/p>\n These organisations defend Israel and the Jewish people against left-wing ideologies. They are therefore Bad Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n Sadly, this odious Good Jew\/Bad Jew trope is now being promoted within the Jewish world itself.<\/span><\/p>\n Both in Israel and the diaspora, progressive Jews have been convulsed over the composition of the new government being assembled by Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu. This is because he is handing out government positions to three highly controversial lawmakers.<\/span><\/p>\n The rabble-rouser Itamar Ben-Gvir is set to become minister of national security. <\/span>Bezalel Smotrich, who hankers after an Israeli theocracy, will reportedly be a junior defence minister with certain powers over the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria. Avi Maoz, whose party opposes LGBTQ rights and other progressive causes, is apparently being given control over outside input into the school curriculum and a new office devoted to \u201cJewish identity\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n This has produced epic pearl-clutching by diaspora Jews, who are falling over themselves to announce that they might now withhold their support from Israel. Such hysteria also promotes the Good Jew\/Bad Jew agenda.<\/span><\/p>\n This week, Richard Ferrer, the editor of Britain\u2019s Jewish News, announced to readers of the online edition of The Times of London that many British Jews were \u201chorrified\u201d by Israel\u2019s new government.<\/span><\/p>\n His claims in this article were exaggerated, distorted and absurd. He described Ben-Gvir, Smotrich and Maoz as \u201cthe Jewish Taliban\u2014theocrats in search of a Jewish Iran<\/i>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Leave aside for the moment that the Taliban are Sunni Muslims while the Iranians are their Shia foes. The idea that any of these three Israeli Jews represents the mortal and unprovoked threat to life and liberty embodied by the Taliban and the atrocities they have committed is grotesque.<\/span><\/p>\n Moreover, the Taliban are Islamists. Yet Ferrer had not felt impelled to tell Times readers \u2014 as he did this week \u2014 that \u201cTheodor Herzl must be turning in his grave\u201d when the government of Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid went into coalition with Mansour Abbas\u2019s Islamist Ra\u2019am party.<\/span><\/p>\n This was despite the fact that Ra\u2019am is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, which promulgates paranoid conspiracies about Jews and seeks the destruction of Israel and the west.<\/span><\/p>\n Ferrer foamed that the three Israelis were \u201cnot liberally-minded democrats\u201d and that two at least were anti-gay. But last year, his Jewish News reported that Ra\u2019am was \u201csocially extremely conservative, and Abbas famously spoke to an Israel news site in favour of conversion therapy for LGBTQ people\u201d. His paper nevertheless purred over that coalition and described Abbas as a \u201cpragmatist\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Moreover, Ferrer\u2019s article inverted the truth in a manner that would have done justice to any Islamist propagandist. He accused Ben-Gvir of \u201cstoking last year\u2019s riots against Israeli Arabs that sparked conflict with Hamas\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n The police did indeed accuse Ben Gvir of inflaming the tensions that roiled Israel\u2019s mixed cities in May last year. But most of that violence \u2014 including the murder of Israelis \u2014 was committed by Israeli Arabs with cries of \u201cwith fire and blood, we shall redeem Palestine\u201d and \u201cslaughter the Jews\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n It was only after Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad started firing hundreds of rockets at Israel from Gaza during this Arab nationalist uprising that Israel took military action. Yet Ferrer implied that Israel was to blame for the violence.<\/span><\/p>\n Placing this disgraceful travesty in The Times will undoubtedly provide further ammunition to Israel\u2019s enemies and demonise any Jews who support it. Indeed, the implication of Ferrer\u2019s claim to hold the Jewish state dear is that anyone who isn\u2019t \u201cscreaming not in our name\u201d is a Bad Jew.<\/span><\/p>\n This has been echoed in Israel itself, where the left has also gone into meltdown.<\/span><\/p>\n Maoz sparked outrage in the Knesset this week by comparing the Lapid government to the Hellenising Jews of the Hanukkah story. \u201cAnyone who tries to create a new so-called liberal religion is the darkness,\u201d he said. \u201cAnyone who \u2014 with intentional concealment and obfuscation \u2014 tries to brainwash the children of Israel with their agendas, without the knowledge of the parents, is the darkness\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n This provoked Yesh Atid MK Michal Shir Segman to shout: \u201cWho are you to decide who is a good Jew and who is a bad Jew? Chutzpah.\u201d But what was she doing if not precisely that?<\/span><\/p>\n For such people, Bad Jews include anyone with an orthodox and conservative take on the Torah commandments.<\/span><\/p>\n Rational people who are understandably alarmed by the past record of these three or find their current positions distasteful will wait to see what they actually do. Netanyahu, after all, has made plain that he intends to keep them on a tight leash.<\/span><\/p>\n As Shany Mor and Einat Wilf have written for the Foundation for Defence of Democracies \u2014 considering the many occasions when the election of a new Israeli government has conjured up horrific scenarios \u2014 \u201cWhat stands out is that Netanyahu\u2019s governments, all of which, without exception, were greeted with tears by the defeated side, never implemented these nightmare scenarios, and sometimes even the opposite occurred.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n But today\u2019s pearl-clutchers aren\u2019t waiting to see what happens. They object to these three being in the government at all. They are panicking that they might be associated with these characters because they are all Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n To grasp just how curious this reaction is, look at it from the other end of the political telescope.<\/span><\/p>\n Progressive Jewish viewpoints \u2014 on identity politics issues such as race and gender or on matters to do with Israel and the Palestinians \u2014 offend, upset and frighten other Jews. They think the progressives are wrong, illiberal, hypocritical and in various ways threaten the integrity and security of Israel and the Jewish people.<\/span><\/p>\n Yet these anti-progressives don\u2019t feel that their own identity is compromised by these positions; they do not feel the need to say \u201cnot in my name\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n What does this difference tell us?<\/span><\/p>\n First, what always matters most for progressives is how others see them \u2014 and how they see themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n Crucial to their identity, however, is that they define themselves by what they are not. They term their opponents \u201cthe right\u201d not as an accurate descriptor (it often isn\u2019t) but as an insulting benchmark of unacceptability. The worse that benchmark, the more virtuous they become. That\u2019s why they are so quick to elide \u201cright-wing\u201d with \u201cfar-right,\u201d \u201cfascist\u201d or \u201cNazi\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n This is despite the fact that they make themselves look ridiculous, as did Tel Aviv\u2019s Mayor Ron Huldai who urged Israelis to rise up against the country\u2019s impending \u201cfascist theocracy\u201d. But of course, under actual fascism no such revolt would be possible. And inciting revolt against a properly elected government is hardly democratic.<\/span><\/p>\n No matter. Any Jew who fails to denounce Ben-Gvir, Smotrich or Maoz will be tarred and feathered as a Bad Jew. Character assassination is a way of shutting down an argument altogether.<\/span><\/p>\n Those who try to silence others like this do so out of fear. So why are these \u201cGood Jews\u201d so frightened that their own identity is so vulnerable?<\/span><\/p>\n Here\u2019s the final curiosity.
