Fils de Ma\u00efmon, il na\u00eet \u00e0 Cordoue, en Espagne, le 30 mars 1135. En 1148, une pers\u00e9cution des Almohades contraint la famille de Maimon \u00e0 fuir Cordoue et \u00e0 se rendre \u00e0 Tol\u00e8de, o\u00f9 durant les derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es de son s\u00e9jour, Ma\u00efmonide r\u00e9alise de nombreuses autopsies effectu\u00e9es sous la direction d \u2019 Avensole.<\/p>\n<p>Chass\u00e9 d \u2019 Espagne lors de la pers\u00e9cution men\u00e9e par les Almohades, il part en 1158 pour F\u00e8s (Maroc). Il quitte le Maroc en 1165 et, apr\u00e8s des p\u00e9rip\u00e9ties, s \u2019 \u00e9tablit en \u00c9gypte, \u00e0 Foustat, au voisinage du Caire actuel. En 1174, il est admis comme m\u00e9decin appoint\u00e9 \u00e0 la cour de Saladin le Magnifique [1]. Il n \u2019 exerce professionnellement la m\u00e9decine qu \u2019 apr\u00e8s la mort de son p\u00e8re, en 1166, et la mort de son fr\u00e8re dans un naufrage survenu peu apr\u00e8s.
