Ce classique consiste en des morceaux de poisson frits croustillants, accompagn\u00e9s de frites. Il est devenu une v\u00e9ritable institution britannique, appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e aussi bien par les locaux que par les touristes \u00e0 la recherche d’une exp\u00e9rience gastronomique authentique.<\/p>\n

Aux XVIe et XVIIe si\u00e8cles, des Juifs quittent la p\u00e9ninsule Ib\u00e9rique pour l\u2019Angleterre afin d\u2019\u00e9chapper aux pers\u00e9cutions. Ils apportent avec eux une sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 : du poisson frit dans de la p\u00e2te. Pendant le shabbat o\u00f9 il est interdit de cuire les aliments, il a l\u2019avantage de rester d\u00e9licieux m\u00eame froid. Pratique !<\/p>\n

C\u2019est au XIXe si\u00e8cle qu\u2019on commence \u00e0 servir le poisson (fish) avec des frites (chips). Une vieille querelle oppose Manchester \u00e0 Londres sur la paternit\u00e9 de ce duo irr\u00e9sistible. Selon les Londoniens, c\u2019est Joseph Malin, un Juif d\u2019Europe de l\u2019Est, qui a le premier propos\u00e9 le fish and chips dans son restaurant de l\u2019East End vers 1860.<\/p>\n
