Il fut restaur\u00e9 au XIX<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p>D&rsquo;apr\u00e8s les historiens, c&rsquo;est une s\u00e9cheresse historique qui s\u00e9vit de 123 \u00e0 128, qui oblige les Romains \u00e0 aller chercher de l&rsquo;eau plus loin que les abords de la ville. C&rsquo;est l&#8217;empereur&nbsp;Hadrien&nbsp;d\u00e9cide le captage des&nbsp;sources&nbsp;existant dans les massifs montagneux du&nbsp;Djebel Zaghouan&nbsp;et du Jouggar ainsi que la construction d&rsquo;un immense aqueduc. Il est coup\u00e9 \u00e0 deux reprises, par les Vandales puis par les Arabes. Il est remis en \u00e9tat au X<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle et pourvu d&rsquo;une d\u00e9rivation vers&nbsp;Tunis au XIII<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle. Apr\u00e8s les&nbsp;Hafsides, son entretien est n\u00e9glig\u00e9 jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 sa restauration au XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. Il est possible que ce clich\u00e9 ait \u00e9t\u00e9 pris avant la restauration, il s&rsquo;agit en tous cas d&rsquo;une portion de l&rsquo;aqueduc qui a particuli\u00e8rement subi les dommages du temps.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align:start\"><span dir=\"auto\">L\u2019aqueduc de Carthage fut construit par les romains au IIe si\u00e8cle de notre \u00e8re, sous l\u2019Empereur Hadrien. Con\u00e7u pour assurer un d\u00e9bit journalier de 32 000 m3, il comporte deux branches, l&rsquo;une venant de Zaghouan mesurant 6,01 kilom\u00e8tres de longueur, l&rsquo;autre, venant de Jouggar mesurant 33,63 kilom\u00e8tres, se r\u00e9unissant \u00e0 Moghrane. La longueur totale de l&rsquo;aqueduc jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 Carthage, y compris les diverses ramifications, est de 132 kilom\u00e8tres. Sa d\u00e9clivit\u00e9 est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment de 0,29 %. Au cours de son histoire, il est coup\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, d&rsquo;abord par les Vandales puis par les Arabes. Remis en \u00e9tat au Xe si\u00e8cle, il est pourvu d&rsquo;une d\u00e9rivation sur Tunis au XIIIe si\u00e8cle.
